This course will teach you the foundational yoga postures with an emphasis on correct alignment to help open and educate the body in a safe way, and will give you the skills and confidence to attend any yoga class. We will have a male demonstration model so you can see what each pose looks like on a body that is similar to your own. Participants also receive a free Catalyst water bottle & a T-shirt from The Shaka Project who donate proceeds from sales to men’s mental health charities.
Along with training your body, yoga also trains your mind to find stillness and encourages an overall sense of calm. Yoga brings awareness to the breath, and when we start to focus on the breath we immediately move out of our minds and into our body, and into the present moment. By approaching the postures with mindfullness we soon find a sense of ease in our mind and the body’s relaxation response is turned on. Soon, this state of calm that we cultivate through our practice begins to extend into our everyday lives as we learn to really listen to what our bodies are telling us, to distance ourselves from the constant mental chatter, and to pause and breathe. As the famous quote goes, “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom.” Yoga is the key to finding this space within.
